Sesame Street Warning

My son and I usually watch the evening news together. Or rather, I’ll listen to it and we play together. But last night, my son stopped playing and nearly broke his neck turning to the TV when Katie Couric mentioned the words “Sesame Street”. He knew it wasn’t time for it, but he wanted to see Big Bird and Cookie Monster.

CBS did a story on the recent release of the first several seasons of Sesame Street on DVD. The DVD apparently has a warning on it that warns adults of the scenes contained in the various episodes. The scenes contain:

Children playing in a construction yard
Children running through a sewer pipe
Children riding their bicycles without a helmet
A strange man (Gordon) inviting a young girl into his house for ice cream

What a sign of the times! Sesame Street isn’t safe for kids anymore. I’m not saying I don’t agree with some of the ideas behind the warning, but who would have thought it would have been necessary?
