Photography as a hobby

A little over a year ago, I finished graduate school and bought myself a cool Nikon D80 camera as a reward. It’s way over-powered for my use right now, but I’ve been learning and practicing….it’s one of those things that definitely gets better the more you do it.
I’ve come to learn that 95% of a being a good photographer means you have to “see” things differently and understand the conditions before you make the shot. The other 5% is luck…being in the right place at the right time. Talk to professional photographer someday…they’ll amaze you with their understanding of light, focusing, composition, etc…things you never thought of before. It’s a bit frustrating as engineers (me especially) aren’t known to be real creative, artistic folks.
So, I hope to be showcasing some of my pics here on this site. The shot below is one of my boy….

Persistence!

Back in my younger days, I had the following quote memorized. It now hangs above my desk as a reminder…it’s taken on a whole new meaning as I am beginning this blog.
Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence.
Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent.
Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb.
Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts.
Persistence and determination alone are omnipotent.
